Accessibility

We believe everyone should be able to use EqualiShop. This page explains what we do to make that happen and how to let us know if something isn't working for you.

Our Commitment

EqualiShop is a platform built around inclusion. That principle extends to how we build the product itself. We want every employee, regardless of ability, to be able to browse brands, grab discount codes and track their impact without running into barriers.

We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is an ongoing process and we are continuously improving as we build and learn.

What We Currently Do

Here is a summary of the accessibility measures we have built into EqualiShop so far.

1

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements on the site can be reached and operated using a keyboard. We use visible focus indicators so you can always see where you are on the page. A "skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page when you press Tab.

2

Screen Reader Support

We use semantic HTML elements, ARIA landmarks and descriptive labels throughout the site. Navigation, sections and interactive components are labelled so assistive technologies can convey the structure and purpose of each part of the page.

3

Alternative Text

All meaningful images have descriptive alt text. Decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers using aria-hidden so they don't add noise to the experience.

4

Reduced Motion

If you have "reduce motion" enabled in your operating system settings, animations and transitions across the site are automatically minimised. This includes carousels, hover effects and page reveal animations.

5

Colour and Contrast

We aim for sufficient colour contrast across all text and interactive elements. Our design system uses colour combinations that meet WCAG AA contrast requirements for normal and large text.

6

Form Accessibility

All form fields have associated labels. Password visibility toggles announce their state to screen readers. Error messages are connected to the relevant fields so assistive technologies can identify what needs attention.

7

Responsive Design

The site adapts to different screen sizes and works with browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. Text can be resized without breaking the layout.

8

Touch Targets

Buttons and interactive elements meet minimum touch target sizes so they are easy to use on mobile devices and for people with motor impairments.

What We Are Still Working On

Accessibility is not a box to tick. It is something we are building into every part of the platform as we go. Here are areas we are actively improving.

  • Expanding ARIA support across newer interactive components like search dropdowns and filters
  • Improving the connection between form validation messages and their associated fields
  • Conducting formal contrast testing across all colour combinations in light and dark contexts
  • Adding more descriptive text alternatives for complex data visualisations in the employer dashboard
  • Regular testing with screen readers including NVDA, VoiceOver and JAWS

Standards We Follow

Our accessibility work is guided by the following standards and best practices.

WCAG 2.1
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at Level AA. The internationally recognised standard for web accessibility.
EN 301 549
The European standard for accessibility requirements of ICT products and services, which references WCAG 2.1 AA.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

EqualiShop is designed to work with commonly used assistive technologies. We test and optimise for the following combinations.

Safari + VoiceOver

macOS and iOS

Chrome + NVDA

Windows

Edge + Narrator

Windows

We also aim to support JAWS and TalkBack (Android). If you experience issues with any assistive technology not listed here, please let us know.

Report an Accessibility Issue

If you find something on EqualiShop that is difficult to use or inaccessible, we want to hear about it. Your feedback helps us make the platform better for everyone.

When reporting an issue it helps if you can include:

  • A description of the problem you encountered
  • The page or feature where it happened
  • The browser and assistive technology you were using
  • Any screenshots if possible

Email us at support@equalishop.com and we will respond within 5 working days.

Built Around Inclusion

EqualiShop exists to support underrepresented businesses and the people who want to buy from them. Accessibility is central to that mission. We are committed to making the platform usable for everyone.
